A new windtunnel was launched at the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA) recently. The team working with mechanical engineer Viktor Dorer from ETH is analyzing the impact of air flows in urban regions. These flows are influencing health, pollutants and energy consumption. The data collected with LaVision’s PIV systems deliver valuable information for city planners and economists among others. A short video in German language shows how such a windtunnel is working.
