Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Engines

New gas and dual fuel engine developments for significant carbon dioxide reduction are focused on using compressed natural gas (CNG). Due to the climate change and the resulting reorientation towards alternative and therefore less environmentally harmful propulsion systems, research and development in the field of natural gas (CNG) driven engines have gained significantly in importance. Especially direct injection of gas can deliver more torque at low rpm and offers high driving enjoyment.

The mixture formation of gas with fresh air is distinctively different compared to liquid fuels due to the mixture formation. Knowledge about high time-resolved air-fuel-ratio evolution within each cycle is necessary for optimizing gas engine parameters.
